...or better yet, who is 'SHINE?
Great music begins with great songs, and great songs are what ‘Shine was
all about. Shine‘s music had been described as “Southern
Americana” . It was hard to hear ‘Shine play without bobbing your head,
tapping your toes or dancing with reckless abandon.
Maybe it was the searing guitar work from
Bryan Harrell, the guitar strumming, harp playing and smooth vocals from
Billy Barwick, or the groovin' stomp rhythm section from bassist Davis
Canady Jr. and drummer Jeff Hunnicutt. Whatever it was, the sounds were
quintessentially “ ‘Shined up.”
No two ‘Shine shows were alike. They were
rowdy, freewheeling modern hootenannies that surprised the audience as
much as they surprised the band. ‘Shine innovatively recast the live
show experience as a familial gathering of people swapping songs and
stories. The musicians told stories, asked musical trivia and the
audience was absolutely drawn into the circle, engaged by the joyous
camaraderie, playful musicality, and charmingly original music of this
cast of characters.
This quartet played the main stage during
Azalea Festival and Riverfest, along with other local and regional acts.
